International Primary Curriculum (IPC)
The International Primary Curriculum is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum with a clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for international mindedness and for personal learning based on the IPC personal goals of adaptability, enquiry, cooperation, communication, thoughtfulness, respect, resilience and morality.
The IPC has been designed to ensure rigorous learning but also to help teachers make all learning exciting, active and meaningful for children. Learning with the IPC takes a global approach; helping children to connect their learning to where they are living now as well as looking at the learning from the perspective of other people in other countries. The IPC is used by schools in more than 65 countries around the world.
At Ambrosoli International School, children from Year 1 to Year 6 follow IPC units of work. The units cover a range of themes that are relevant and appropriate for different age groups. For example, the younger children’s learning is based on topics such as ‘Holidays’ or ‘Toys’ which enable children to draw on their own direct experiences. Older children study more complex topics, which include learning about our solar system and finding out about global trade and migration. The IPC units used at Ambrosoli support the development of knowledge, skills and understanding in the following subjects: history, geography, science, art, technology, music, ICT and social and international education.
The richness and breadth of the International Primary Curriculum are integrated with the English National Curriculum Numeracy and Literacy Units of work. Our teachers are experienced in working with children from many national systems and the support they provide in class enables children with a variety of educational backgrounds to make exceptional progress with their learning.
