Individual Learning Needs

Special Educational Needs

Ambrosoli International School is a diverse and inclusive community dedicated to ensuring that each and every learner is supported in order to reach their full potential. The Individual Learning Needs department values collaboration between parents, teachers, and students. We believe that our learners, including those identified as having individual learning needs, have a common entitlement to a broad and balanced academic, personal, and social development and that they should be included in all aspects of school life.

Learning Support Services:

  • Inclusive Intervention – Learners are supported in the needed subject areas through collaboration and co-teaching in their mainstream classrooms.
  • One-to-One Intervention – Learners who have needs that exceed our provision in the classroom context are supported individually. Learners who are eligible are supported by the Special Education Needs Coodinator (SENCO) who helps design curriculum and learning specific to the needs of the child.
  • Small Group Intervention – Small groups of children working towards similar targets meet together with the SENCO, such as our social group and gifted and talented learners.
  • Speech and Language Therapy – Ambrosoli works in partnership with another organisation to offer on-campus speech and language intervention.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

At Ambrosoli we value every child and believe all children have the right to learn and have access to an education regardless of their cultural background or the language they speak.  Ambrosoli School provides all children whose English is not their mother tongue access to a program led by a specialised English as an additional language (EAL) teacher.

Children at Ambrosoli come from over 50 nationalities and speak over 30 languages. Our specialised EAL department welcomes children who need additional support, whether it is to begin English language skills, increase phoneme awareness or expand their vocabulary and comprehension.

Upon arrival at Ambrosoli, an assessment of language skills will be conducted and a language learner profile will be completed to individualise each child’s learning journey and identify the strategies needed to develop each child’s language intervention program.  Some strategies that are used are:

  • Survival language-whole school approach to EAL
  • Connecting in-school and out-of-school learning
  • Continued home language development
  • Development of English language skills
  • Parental involvement

Anyone who would like some more information about English as a second language can email michael@ambrosolischool.com – we would be happy to arrange a chat with you at any point.
