Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Our Early Years Unit is made up of Sunflower Class and Reception Class. Sunflower Class is where the youngest children (2.5 -4-year-olds) in Ambrosoli grow, learn and develop. We share a large and well resourced free play space where the children have access to a wide range of exciting play opportunities. Reception Class (4-5-year-olds) is formed from two class groups, Reception Flametree and Reception Boabab. These are two classes using adjoining large classrooms, with their own outdoor play area and veranda.
A normal day in the Early Years will see the children exploring new spaces, cooking up something lovely for their snack, engaging in discussion in circle time, being outdoors, discovering new games, jumping into the splash pool, getting messy in the art room, creating new imaginative ideas in the role play or small world areas, engaging in computing and technology, building, problem-solving and generally having lots of fun (and that’s just a normal day)!
We are really lucky at Ambrosoli to be able to have specialist teachers too. The children will have focus activities led by their teachers in phonics and maths and will learn to read, write and manipulate numbers during their early years, therefore our days are busy and fun-filled at all times.
The most important thing for our Early Years children is to ensure that each child is treasured as unique, individual and above all special. As an internationally-minded setting, we try to ensure that we follow children’s learning through interest, hobbies and through exciting play opportunities. There is never a dull moment. We use the English national curriculum called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which celebrates 7 learning areas and development, these are;
- Personal, Social and Emotional development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Expressive Art and Design
- Understanding the World
Alongside this, we use the IPC goals as a way of ensuring our children get the best start in life. We want to encourage the holistic development of all children; children who are creative and curious and have the opportunity to grow in independence. We believe setting the right foundations for our youngest children will help them to love learning, love school and become well rounded and special individuals.
